First we will talk about monitoring your website traffic success. There are many ways for your to monitor your success. Some of the ways to monitor your success are paid and others are free. I use only free methods to monitor my websites and the tool I use most often is Alexa. You can download the toolbar from Alexa.com.  Use this tool to keep an eye on how your sites traffic fluctuates up and down.  You can also keep an eye on how much time your visitors spend on your site. If you are wondering why I do not recommend Google tools, that is a whole new subject that I would have to discuss in another post.

Low Hanging Fruit

My first tip is to go after low hanging fruit. So, what exactly is low hanging fruit? It is the fruit that hangs from the tree that is most in your reach. This is the quick grab that you need nothing special other than just to reach out and grab. This low hanging fruit is low competition keywords often referred to as long tail keywords. Targeting long tail keywords is a great way to generate traffic to the site that would otherwise receive very little traffic. The reason that you are able to compete for this traffic is because the high traffic sites are not concentrating on these keyword phrases.

Social Media Traffic

Is social media traffic really what people have built it up to be? Some of this hype is true and some is hype but there are many people getting tons of traffic from social media outlets. The secrets to social media traffic is not getting on twitter and spamming all of your contacts. The social aspect is all about building relationships and connections with others that are interested in the topic that your site focuses on. If you are looking to build traffic using Social Media, take the time to build relationships. Always offer your contacts useful information and keep them involved by replying to their questions and asking them questions.

Article Marketing Traffic

If you are looking simply for backlinks to help boost your sites ranking, article marketing is not what I would recommend. However, if you are looking for a great way to get your information in front of an audience. There is however a challenge in getting traffic to your article. You must still optimize your article for search engines in order to get traffic to your article. Just by having your article posted on a popular article site does not get your article in front of a huge audience.
