A very common question “How do websites make money?”

There are many ways that websites make money and I will list several here to help you come up with ideas of how you can make money online as well.

• Some webmasters find success with membership sites.  Though membership sites can bring you residual income, you must provide your members with quality content in order to have them keep their membership with your site.  If you have a great product or service that you can offer your members to where they are willing to pay a monthly membership, this is a great approach to making money with your website.  Just remember, it is not the website that is making the money or keeping the money flowing.  It is the great content that you offer your members.   Seek to make your members impressed with the information you are providing.  If you keep your mind focused on providing quality content, the money will come.  However, if you place your focus on making money you may find success more difficult.
• Using Adsense on your website.  Adsense can be a powerful tool for making money with your website.  However, there are things that you must know to be effective with Adsense.  I do not plan to go into all of the Adsense tips here but you can view my previous posts on this topic.  I will be discussing Adsense more in the future.
• Sponsored advertising…  If you are in a niches that relates to a product or service that can be found locally, you can approach businesses about sponsored ads on your website.  Say you host a blog about real estate in your area.  If you receive a great deal of targeted traffic to your website, you can approach local real estate agents with an advertising offer.  There are many other niches that can be used to promote local business.  This is just an example of the one that comes to mind first.
• Affiliate advertising -  This is where you place ads on your website for products and services that you feel your customers would be interested in purchasing.  One of my favorite affiliate networks is Shareasale Affiliate .  This is probably the best one I have found for the newbie.  However, if you have been online long enough to build up traffic to your site, CJ.com is also good.  The only problem with CJ.com is that you are required to make a minimum number of sales per month to keep your account.  So, if your traffic in not to a point to where you can make a lot of sale, you may want to stick with Shareasale Affiliate until you can build up traffic.  These service pay on a percentage basis.  So you may make 10% – 25% commission based on the product or service.
